There is no native or proprietary backup/restore tool for Xcalar.You can use any storage backup tool that performs backup of the shared storage where Xcalar Root is configured.
Xcalar preserves user workbooks and other shared objects in a Xcalar Root directory that must be visible to all nodes of the Xcalar cluster. Administrators set the Xcalar Root location using a configuration variable called "XcalarRootCompletePath".
The following user items are preserved to storage, in folders and files beneath XcalarRootCompletePath:
* user sessions
* batch dataflows which have been saved or uploaded
* user-defined functions
To perform the backup step, use file copy/backup tools outside of Xcalar. Options include a storage snapshot, file copy, or system backup utility.
It’s best to use a tool which makes a consistent backup, like a storage snapshot, otherwise Xcalar should be shut down to guarantee consistency of the files during the backup.
To restore, the follow sequence must be performed:
* The Xcalar cluster must be shut down
* The backups taken earlier, outside of Xcalar, must be restored completely to the XcalarCompleteRootPath
(This must not be a partial restoration - all files and folders must be restored)
* The Xcalar cluster must be restarted, once the file restoration has completed
This will set the stage for the user items to be restored when a user logs in and re-activates each workbook. All items in a workbook will be restored by a feature in Xcalar known as “session replay”.
